Student (Under 18 Years Old) Volunteer Application & Information

Highs school students are welcome to volunteer at Troy Historic Village! All volunteers must be at least 14 years old, or in 9th grade.

Younger volunteers are welcomed on a case-by-case basis, and parents/guardians must remain on site. Email volunteer@thvmail.org to discuss younger student volunteer opportunities.

In hundreds of unique and generous acts of service, our volunteers engage the public, support operations, and preserve our resources. Our dedicated volunteers donate over 5,000 hours of their collective time each year!

Here are some of the ways our Villager Volunteers bring our mission to life:

Engage the Public:

  • Help staff check in and welcome guests to programs; share information about the program during community events
  • Help create a super-fun time as an activity helper (craft station assistant, reset the lanes during our Spring Egg Hunt, make sure kids take turns at the obstacle course, to name a few) during our annual Trick-or-Treat, Spring Egg Hunt, Cocoa and Crafts with Santa, Open Houses, and other special event programs
  • Help us give out samples at our pop-up shop full of delicious Michigan-made maple syrup products at Maple Syrup Time
  • Spend the day looking at really awesome cars while helping with lots of different activities during the Troy Traffic Jam (always the first Sunday in August)

Support Operations:

  • Help prepare field trip craft supplies or special event craft supplies at the Village
  • Help set up or take down scarecrows in October and November
  • Help make the Village beautiful doing seasonal decorating
  • Help stuff goody bags for the Troy Traffic Jam in July

Preserving Our Resources:

  • Assist staff with cleaning tasks throughout the Village
  • Assist staff with yard work chores in the Pioneer Garden or other yard work chores
