America 250: Celebrating Troy's Stories

This year marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. To celebrate the Semiquincentennial, Troy Historic Village is inviting the community to hear the stories of our past, from the earliest pioneers to our neighbors today. The Village is actively collecting stories from people all ages and backgrounds through various free programs this year.

What is America 250?

America 250 (or the Semiquincentennial) is the official nationwide commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Communities across the countries are celebrating in their own unique ways with a focus on gatherings, support through volunteer work, and collecting histories. America250 (no space) refers to the bipartisan initiative working to engage every American in the 250th anniversary of the United States.

How is the Village able to participate?

Troy Historic Village was awarded a $12,513 grant from America250MI for the Telling Troy’s Story project which has involved research into why people moved to Troy, from the earliest pioneers to more recent migrants, and record and share those stories. An important part of this project is collecting the stories of Troy’s diverse population because this is an area underrepresented in our historical records and archives.
