Watercolor Classes

Select Wednesdays ǀ 4:30-6:30pm ǀ Troy Historical Society Member: $40/class ǀ Non-member: $48/class ǀ Ages 16 & up

Artist and art teacher Megan Swoyer guides students in using a variety of watercolor techniques to create colorful fall scenes. No experience is necessary; all supplies will be provided. Class begins at 4:30pm sharp, please make sure to arrive on time and put your cell phone on silent. Please scroll down to register.

Fall 2024 Watercolor Class Schedule

• September 18: Pansies & Blanket Flowers: These richly colored flowers that color early-autumn gardens come to life with bold purples and violets and bright, warm yellows. Painters will paint wet-into-wet and wet-into-dry to create these vivid plants.
• October 9: Just Peachy! It's so much fun to capture fruit in watercolor, especially as it's growing. Students will enjoy using peachy colors and lots of water on these round fruits and then enhancing the hues with rich green leaves, stems, and textured branches. Lots of fun techniques will be explored, including lost edges and shading.
• October 16: Pure Michigan Lighthouse: Located in Northeast Michigan, Tawas Point Lighthouse is a beauty and was recently again restored to its former glory. Painters will capture the grasses, trees, and marsh areas that surround it, as well as a glimpse of the stately beauty with pretty watercolor paints and unique techniques.
• October 30: Autumn Nuthatch: The nuthatch sticks around in our Michigan backyards throughout the chilly seasons, and we’re glad because painters can get inspired throughout the year. A few berries to keep him happy is a must and adds brilliance to this bird portrait.
• November 13: Home for Thanksgiving: Painters will “light the fire, hang a magnolia wreath, and open the door” in this pretty fall farmhouse vignette that welcomes the season.

Watercolor classes start at 4:30pm sharp! Make sure to arrive on time so you don’t miss anything and please put your cell phone on silent.
