Experience Christmas during the Victorian Era! Costumed reenactors will perform activities of the season including playing games, decorating, exchanging gifts, and calling on friends. Enjoy music, crafts, a mini-exhibit, and complimentary hot cider and cocoa. Fun for all ages! Enjoy carols, historic crafts, hot cider and cocoa, and shopping for stocking stuffers in our general store.
What to Expect
Our theme this year is the Arts! Come learn about music, crafts, stories, and other artistic elements of the season. Plus - you'll get to experience the Village at night, including the Log Cabin!
One of our amazing volunteers will guide you through the three main stops of the program to visit our costumed reenactors. After visiting the three stops, you're free to roam and explore the Village! All of the buildings will be open. Make sure to stop at the General Store for hot cocoa, cider, and lots of gifts available for purchase.
Since we don't have food available for purchase, please feel free to bring snacks to enjoy with your hot cocoa or cider. At the end of the program, you will exit through the gate on the side of the main building. We will have green signs to help direct your path.
Frequently Asked Questions
If you have accessibility questions, please contact us anytime at info@thvmail.org, or email us at 248-524-3570
- Is the program outside? The program is primarily indoors, but does require walking short distances outside in between buildings.
- Can I dress up? Yes! While it is not required to dress seasonally, it can make the event more fun!
- Can I bring a stroller or a wagon? Yes! We have a paved sidewalk throughout the Village. You are welcome to take the strollers and wagons inside the buildings (each one has a ramp entrance), and we ask that you are mindful about the spaces inside when driving the stroller or wagon through.
- Can I bring my dog? Only service animals are allowed at the Village. We strive to make sure everyone feels safe and comfortable, so please leave your pets at home.
- How long does it take to go through the event? The average time to go through the guided part of our Victorian Christmas program is about 45 minutes – 1 hour, then to explore the rest of the Village takes around 30 minutes – 1 hour depending on how much you and your group are engaging in the activities!
- Do you have quiet spaces to go if one of my group members needs a sensory break? Yes! Our Main Building is closed for public access, but we can make space if you need it. You can also ask us when you arrive - THV Staff and volunteers are ready and prepared to try and help accommodate your needs!
- What happens if I miss my time slot? Can I still come? Yes! Please do. Our last admission for Friday is 7:30pm. Saturday Morning last admission is 12:30pm. Saturday Evening last admission is 7:30pm. Just make sure you make it before those times!
- My family doesn’t celebrate Christmas, can we still come? Yes! Please do. This program is first and foremost an immersive historical program focused on education and not celebration!
- Is this a good program for kids? This program is recommended for ages 8 and up. Kids who especially enjoy history will enjoy the content and engaging with the reenactors.
