History Interpreters will be out and about from 4-7pm. Visit with our Village pioneers and learn about the various chores and activities they are working on – you may be able to help complete some of the activities, too! Activities might include how pioneers did laundry, real-time cooking or baking using historic recipes and techniques, demonstrations on hobbies like woodworking or knitting, and working in the garden! Activities will vary based on each date, so make sure to visit each time to learn or experience a new pioneer activity. History Interpreters are included with General Admission – no reservation needed.
Take a Self-Guided Tour that lasts about one hour. Signs are posted inside and outside each building with information, but we encourage you to use our digital self-guided to enhance your experience with more text, photos, and videos. We do have a limited quantity of printed copies of the tour. Please let us know if you do not have a cell phone to access the digital tour! Download the tour ahead of time by clicking here. Self-Guided Tours are included with General Admission – no reservation needed.
Scavenger Hunts are always available for all ages. We have two different scavenger hunts: A lower-level scavenger hunt with only images where you match animals to the building you find them in; an upper-level scavenger hunt using words and images where you match artifacts to the building they are located in. Both are great tools for children to practice using writing skills and provide a safe way to interact with our museum space. Completed scavenger hunts can be turned in for a prize at the end of the visit! Scavenger Hunts are super fun for children of all ages – including adults and seniors! Scavenger Hunts are included with General Admission – no reservation needed.
Rent an Immersive Game for your family or group of friends! We have three different games you can reserve and rent during your visit: A private Escape Room in one of our historic buildings, Village Clue throughout most of our buildings, and The Michigan Trail on our Village Green space. When you rent a game, you will also receive one coupon to a local Troy restaurant. Prices vary per game in addition to General Admission and you can reserve a game in advance.

You are welcome to take the strollers and wagons inside the buildings (each one has a ramp entrance), and we ask that you are mindful about the spaces inside when driving the stroller or wagon through. Changing tables are available in General Store restrooms, and we have quite spaces through the Village if needed.
- Will I be able to get around easily using my wheelchair or walker? Yes! The Village offers three accessible parking spaces in our west parking lot. All buildings have wheelchair-accessible entryways. Buildings are connected by a wide paved pathway. Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are available inside the Old Tory Church.

- How long does it take to go through the Village? The average time to go through the Village is about 1 hour depending on how much time you spend in each building. You may spend more time at the Village depending on the other activities happening during the Open Late you’re attending; you may be here for 1.5 – 2 hours.
- Does the Village close when it rains? No! You can still visit us if it is raining! Remember the Village is a collection of buildings, so we suggest bringing an umbrella to keep you dry as you walk between buildings, but otherwise you will be inside the whole time. We do monitor the weather and are aware of severe weather threats and will adjust our programs as necessary.
- How are Open Lates different than visiting during the day? Generally, Open Lates are very similar to visiting the Village during regular business hours except that we are Open Late! By extending our hours to 7pm on select days, people who work during the day, have school, or other commitments that prevent them from visiting during our regular day-time hours, will be able to visit and enjoy all that we offer. What does separate Open Lates from our regular day-time visits is the activities available! Scavenger Hunts and self-guided tours through the Village are available during the day-time regular hours. Visiting with History Interpreters and Immersive Games are only available to experience during Open Lates!
