Lead by a guest teaching artist from The Fellowship of Arts & Mysteries, students will learn basic leatherworking techniques, including the "shoemaker's stitch," cutting and paring of leather, basic tool usage and safety, and a good deal of historical context that makes the work and the product more satisfying. The final product of the class is a small, leather "document case," which is a reproduction of the one owned (and probably made) by Stratham shoemaker Samuel Lane (b. 1718, d. 1806), and now in the collection of the New Hampshire Historical Society.
This class does include a 1-hour break for lunch. You can leave the site or bring a lunch to eat here.
*Ages 18 & older.
*No prerequisite.
