CANCELLED – Handweaving: Creating a Beautiful Scarf 101

This 3-hour workshop is an introductory class to the craft of handweaving. Students will gain basic instruction on how to weave on a workshop loom. Warping a loom, weaving methods, yarn selection, and tools needed will be discussed in class. The many aspects of weaving, i.e., the history and invention of looms, types of looms, practical/commercial production weaving, and artistic weaving and methods will be shared. Best of all, each student will leave the class with their own high-quality handcrafted scarf. No experience is necessary. Strong hand strength will be required. Participants should refrain from wearing open-toed shoes. Ages 16 and up only. 

 

CANCELLED – Introduction to the Art of Millinery
Sunday September 24, 10am-5pm  

THS Member: $175, Non Member: $200 

Once familiar with basic millinery skills, students can create numerous styles and shapes in many different mediums for winter, summer, autumn, and spring. In this workshop, students will learn the basic skills and history of millinery and use that knowledge to craft one hat (straw or felt) on a wooden hat block and finish it off by sewing by hand or machine. While some hand-sewing experience might be helpful, it is certainly not necessary. By the end of the workshop, students will leave wearing a handcrafted treasure. This beginner-friendly workshop includes a one hour lunch break (bring your own). No experience required. Ages 16 and up only. 

 

Spoon Carving Workshop 
Saturday September 30, 10am-5pm  

THS Member: $150, Non Member: $175 

Learn the basics of spoon carving and try out carving techniques on kiln-dried wood. Students will develop comfortability with several knife grasps and carving techniques using high-quality crook knives and a small hatchet/ax. This class is suitable for both novices and those with some experience who wish to hone their carving and whittling skills. By the end of the day, you will have made at least one simple spoon and gained mastery of the basic skills to make spoons on your own. This beginner-friendly workshop includes a one hour lunch break (bring your own). No experience required. Ages 16 and up only.
