Geared toward 1stthrough 5thgrade. Ever wonder how the pioneers survived in the winter? What did they wear? How did they stay warm? What did they do for fun? How did they get their food and water? Get hands-on with history and experience winter preparations, chores, fashion, and the basics of fire-building at the Village. Participants will be in the log cabin for a part of this program, so please dress appropriately in warm layers.
Outdoor games may also be included, weather allowing.

Visit the Village and join our costumed interpreters as they lead you through a make-believe shopping trip at our 1910s general store. Students will be given various scenarios involving math, history, and economics (such as needs vs. wants, scarcity, bartering, and incentives). Children will also be given an old-fashioned candy or toy to take home!
3 – Session Family Field Trip
Bring your family and a few friends to enjoy some of our most popular field trip activities in physically-distanced, small group settings. Students will go back in time to a one-room school, experience chores and cabin life, and make a candle to take home. Approximately 3 hours. Bring a bagged lunch. Please sign up with a minimum of 8 people.

Design your own stamp. Be a part of a small group to follow clues to find and “collect” stamp images plus leaving their mark for others to see. Clues lead to hidden “letterboxes” in the Village—similar to geocaching, but Victorian Style! Meets “Letterboxer” merit badge requirements.
Playing the Past

Be a student in the one-room school. Spend time in our Log Cabin while the fire blazes. Try chores from the past like weaving on a hand loom and carrying water with a yoke. Have some old-fashioned fun! Meets “Playing the Past” merit badge requirements.
NEW! Scouts Woodworking
$8 per adult, $10 per scout | Thursday Jan. 21 4-5:30, Saturday Jan. 23 10:00-11:30
Cut, hammer and build as scouts make an individual project and one birdhouse for the den or troop. Requires at least 3 weeks notice to prepare materials. Meets “Woodworker” and “Baloo the Builder” merit badge requirements.

Experience the time before electric lights as we “power down” in our Log Cabin. Also see our Celebration of Light exhibit. Learn about cultures and festivities that emphasize light during the dark cycle of the year.
