Join us for a half-day of historical fun on select Wednesdays this summer. Half-Day History programs include 60-90 minutes of hands-on, structured programing – listed below—a space to enjoy lunch (lunch itself not provided) and a scavenger hunt that will take you through the Village at your own pace. Tinker: Learn about the importance of tin products in the 1800s as well as today’s households. You’ll also learn about the job of a tinsmith. Children will be taught how to make decorative patterns on tin and make a suncatcher craft to take home. July 6th, 10:30 | THS Members: $9/person; Nonmembers: $11/person

Tailor: Bring your sewing skills to life. Practice four types of hand-stitches. Apply your new skills to the production of a poke sack- a draw-string bag. You can take home a fabric form to sew and stuff. July 20th, 10:30 | THS Members: $10/person; Nonmembers $12 /person

Soldier: Learn about soldier life during the American Civil War. What did they eat? How did they sleep? What did they wear? Most appropriate for 9 years and older. July 27th, 10:30 | THS Members: $9/person; Nonmembers $11/person

Spy: Come learn about codes and invisible ink used by spies in the Revolutionary War. Make a cipher wheel, test your observation skills, and learn to identify fingerprints. Most appropriate for 9 years and older.  August 3rd, 10:30 | THS Members: $10/person; Nonmembers $12/person

Builder: Be a builder at the Village! Create a pretzel cabin. Make a wooden toy and work as a team to build our noodle log cabin. August 10th, 10:30 | THS Members: $10/person; Nonmembers $12/person

Bigger Builder —Make three cool crafts at THV! Hammer, glue, string and tape your way to create a crate, a wind-up spool “car”, and paper kite. Most appropriate for 9 years and older. $25 per builder. By private booking only.

Baker: Get hands-on with food history and learn to make French bread in a Dutch oven over a fire – just like the pioneers! August 17th, 10:30 | THS Members: $10/person; Nonmembers $12/person

Candlestick Maker: Learn about the different sources of light and wax when the pioneers came to Michigan. Kids will make both a dipped and molded candle to take home. August 24th, 10:30 | THS Members: $9/person; Nonmembers $11/person
