Tangible Cemetery Tour
Saturday, September 28, 2:00 – 3:30 pm (Rain Date: October 5)

Join Troy Historic Village staff in one of our favorite fall traditions: exploring local historic cemeteries! This year’s graveyard of focus is Perrin Cemetery, a small burial ground in Troy established by settler Calvin Perrin in 1840. Fewer than 150 persons have been buried here; a number of them were Civil War veterans.

Tour takes place at Perrin Cemetery, located at 1050 Coolidge Hwy. near Meijer Drive. Look for the green and white Troy Historic Village signs in the Meijer parking lot. Park your vehicle near the Meijer Gas Station on Meijer Drive.

Guided tour includes:

  • Gravestone Geology.Identify headstone composition: we will likely see granite and marble, and maybe even sandstone or white metal.
  • Rubbing/Reading Activity.Make a paper-and-crayon rubbing to reveal engravings that have been hidden over time on weathered tombstones.
  • Unearth the Stories. Using a small probe, locate grave markers hidden below the lawn of the cemetery.

This interactive tour requires walking and standing. It is most appropriate for adults/seniors, teens, and kids ages 6 and up.

Advance registration required as space is limited; call 248-524-3570.
